Murrayville, BC
Murrayville is located within the Township of Langley in southern British Columbia and is the home to RCMP offices, the WC Blair Pool, Langley School Board, and the Township of Langley Operations Centre.
History
Paul Murray settled in this region in 1870 and owned a quarter section of land on each of the 4 corners of Yale Road (which later turned in 216th). This intersection became known by locals as Murray’s corner.
One of the Murray’s, Alexander, drowned in the Fraser River in January 1884 while trying to save a friend. He was first buried at the Fort Langley Cemetery his family exhumed his body when the Odd Fellows Cemetery opened so that it was closer to the family home.
It was in 1925 that the post office first named the region Murrayville – an area that is between 216A St and 28th Avenue. It is one of the oldest subdivisions in Langley and 6 of the 8 heritage houses still remain here.
